Clamwin & M$

Good Day Nigel:
Of all the AV programs that does multiple level directory and zip
file scans I find I like Clamwin a lot.I also agree performance is
secondary to getting the bloody viri! However after the last update I
found this file in the following directory in my C:\Program
Files\Clamwin\Microsoft.VC80.CRT I need to know if it does belong
there and if it does WHAT is a Microsoft .crt file doing in a non-MS
product???? The manifest file opens as an HTML file with the
following contents:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<!-- Copyright © 1981-2001 Microsoft Corporation -->
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<noInheritable/>
<assemblyIdentity
type="win32"
name="Microsoft.VC80.CRT"
version="8.0.50608.0"
processorArchitecture="x86"
publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"
/>
<file name="msvcr80.dll"/>
<file name="msvcp80.dll"/>
<file name="msvcm80.dll"/>
</assembly>

I know nothing about clamWin since that's 3rd party - I suggest using the
official ClamAV port for Windows.

Re: Clamwin & M$ [In reply to]

"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" are files needed to run projects built with
"Visual Studio 2005".
You have this folder because this is the easiest way to enable your
system to run ClamWin binaries.
You may already have those files, but most of the systems do not.

Re: Clamwin & Clamscan.exe [In reply to]

Thanks Nigel,
I do have an odd occurrence I would like to ask the list folks about
about. I've never had a problem with Clamwin or executing clamscan
from the cmd prompt, however, I have lately been coming back to the
laptop to find the drive indicator going like crazy. I first thought
it was Find Fa$t but after killing that it continued. When I bring up
the task manager I discover that Clamscan is running at times that I
have not set a scheduled scan. Does anyone have any ideas on what may
be triggering clamscan? I've checked for rootkits w/O finding any and
the other AV which is AVG likewise comes up zero. At first I thought
it was a M$ fluke so I checked my LinBox and have the same thing
occurring at odd intervals. The ClamWin ver is 0.88.7. Equivalent
Linux version. Since I don't program I want to thank Droga.r for the
info on the VBS file. Thanks in advance folks.
