Best way to mirror database updates

I am wondering what is the best way to mirror database updates.
I notice that rsync is unavailable unless you sign up to be a public mirror.
I have tried using wget with some limited success, but clamwin/freshclam
often report errors about files being unavailable. Even freshclam gives up
after enough errors, forcing me to delete mirrors.dat so freshclam will try
again.
I really want to maintain a local copy of the virus definitions for various
reasons:
1) reduce load on our internet connections
2) reduce mirror load
3) eliminate the need to configure proxy access, which requires
authentication in our case
4) make database updates as fast and painless as possible.
For the record, we are a business, and we have a couple of servers running
clamav-milter, and less than 10 workstations running clamwin.
I would love to hear from anyone who is successfully mirroring database
updates into their organisation, and how you are doing it.
