CUCM 6.1 Upgrade Recovery Question

Getting ready to upgrade from Call Manager 4.1.3 to 6.1.1 by removing our
existing hard drives and installing new hard drives to load 6.1.1 on. The system will be
then be restored using the DMA file.

If we had to fall back to 4.1.3 by reinstalling the 4.1.3 disk drives do we need to do
anything special or is it simply a matter of powering down the Call Manager servers, removing the 6.1 disks, inserting the 4.1.3 disks and powering the servers up? I have tried this in the lab and it seemed to work fine but I just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Thanks!
Steve

That's pretty much it. Make sure you power down the server prior to
removing the 4.1 disks.

Re: CUCM 6.1 Upgrade Recovery Question [In reply to]

haha, I love this advice. You mean we can't do hot upgrades by
replacing all the disks at once while the server is up? That would be a
great feature. I'm getting on the phone with my sales engineer now.

Re: CUCM 6.1 Upgrade Recovery Question [In reply to]

You joke but you'd be surprised how many people will just yank a
drive or two while the server is running and then complain when they
can't boot off of them. The fact that even HP doesn't support
pulling drives as a backup method helps us out in those situations
but when a few words (obvious as they may seem) can help avoid a
potentially big problem it's worth stating the obvious.

I thought there was a utility on the CM 6.x DVDs that you need to run before
going back to windows version to reset the Raid / scsi?

Am i incorrect?

Re: CUCM 6.1 Upgrade Recovery Question [In reply to]

I think this utility is the Recovery-CD and it changes some
BIOS-settings back to windows values. On a partner VT in feb 2006
somebody told us that you have to run this utility before you use this
server for windows OS again.
