CME 3.3 7060 working, 7970 broken, leap year?

CME 3.3. All of a sudden my 7970 phones have stopped working. The 7960's are fine.

The 7970's are all showing a date of 4/20/05 and time of 7:12 pm and they aren't updating the time. This has got to be the biggest clue. Time on 7960's and all the routers are fine. The routers all run ntp.

The load file for the 7970's is "TERM70.6-0-3SR1S.LOADS". I compared the MD5 checksums on all the files between the router and a computer where the images are stored and they are all the same. So the loads aren't corrupted.

The 7970 phones appear to register OK, but some of the buttons don't work, such as any of the line appearances, NewCall, and so on. I can dial the bad 7970's from the good 7960's and they ring but I can't pick up the line. Outside calls also ring.

My config hasn't changed in a long time and a diff to a saved version shows them to be the same.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the leap year and the extra day in Feb. The 7970's all seem to have all died right around the PST time of 4:00 pm which is when the GMT rollover to the 29th occurred. This is actually my best guess as to what the problem is and given the history these phones have with dates and times, I really think that could be it.

Other than that I am really clueless. This config has been working for years. Does anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone know of a latter load that might work with CME 3.3? I tried some latter loads the last time around and they didn't work.

Best,

leb

Do you have the type statements for these ephones?
What about configuration files?
Have you tried show telephony-service tftp-bindings?

Re: CME 3.3 7060 working, 7970 broken, leap year? [In reply to]

CSCed37125

Symptoms:

The 7970 IP Phone will be stuck at the Cisco Logo screen or otherwise be
locked up.

Conditions:
(
The date is January 1st, 2004
-or-
The date is on or after February 29, 2004
-or-
The date is February 29, 2008
)
-and-
(
7970 model phone running 5.x phone load before 5.0(3).
-or-
7970 model phone running 6.x phone load.
)
Workaround:

Upgrade 7970 to Phone Load 8.x.
Individual phone loads are available here to registered Cisco.com users:
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ip-7900ser

All base CM releases include fixed phone load versions except CM4.1(3):
6.1(1) fixed
6.0(1) fixed
5.1(3) fixed
5.1(2) fixed
5.0(4) fixed
4.2(3) fixed
4.2(1) fixed
4.1(3) broken in base version but fixed in all subsequent SR and devpacks.

4.1(3) SR and devicepacks are available here to registered Cisco.com users:
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/callmgr-41

Default phone loads per CM version are documented in the Cisco Unified
Communications Manager Software Compatibility Matrix located here:

Re: CME 3.3 7060 working, 7970 broken, leap year? [In reply to]

The 7970 phones were broken for exactly 24 hours. They broke at 4:00 pm PST on 2/28 and they started working again at 4:00 pm PST on 2/29. So in the GMT time zone they were broken for 24 hours on 2/29. They are now working again. So"TERM70.6-0-3SR1S.LOADS" has this bug.
