7961 with 7914 not getting power...

We just deployed a 7961 and ONE 7914, and the 7914 is not getting
power from the phone... and it only works if we use an external power
supply...

Doco says that it should work, and it has in the past, what is going on?

CCM is 5.1.3a

What doc says it should work? The 7914 has always required an
external power supply.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that drew that conclusion. Post back
what you find, because even though I read it in the docs as well, I've been
told by two different support organizations that you need to locally power
the 7914.

Re: 7961 with 7914 not getting power... [In reply to]

Please send me the links to any docs suggesting otherwise.

I've found this one so far (yes it's for CM 3.0 and 3.1), check out
table 4-1:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7960g_7940g/3_1/
english/administration/guide/7900w14.html

The phone guide:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7914/4_1_3/
english/user/guide/14qsbar.pdf

Is the confusing part where it reads Additional Equipment?

I've never seen a 7914 that takes power from the
phone. . .

One oddball thing I discovered is that if you have two
7914 modules attached, you still only need one power
supply for the middle module and not the outer module.
I just experienced this with CCME 4.1.

Re: 7961 with 7914 not getting power... [In reply to]

I just reread the doc, it says that if you are using an external power
supply on the phone, you can get away with one 7914 free.... if you
are using two you need two...

However, if you are using inline power, you need a power supply for
the first 7914...

This sucks...
