VWIC-2MFT-T1 on 2821 for PSTN support

Hi. Does anyone knows for sure if this  T1 (2 port) Multi-Flex Trunk WAN daughter card VWIC is supported using the 2 T1 ports for voice to the PSTN??? I read a docuement which I'm not clear with what it says:

* Enhanced clocking capabilities--The 2-port MFT VWIC2s can enable each port to be clocked from independent clock sources for data applications. This independent clocking capability is not supported for voice applications and not supported with the AIM-ATM-VOICE-30 module.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2617/products_configuration_example09186a008052c920.shtml

I've had clocking problems with slips errors on the controllers even using the network-clock participate and select commands for example:

network-clock-participate wic 0
network-clock-select 1 T1 0/0/0

In this scenario controller T1 0/0/0 will give me no errors but 0/0/1 will have slips for example. I can live with this errors but faxes don't.

Jose,
I would not recommend it for that application.
In my experience, the potential for echo and other problems come into
play.
Especially if you have an LD provide and a local provider coming into
the same VWIC.

Also check to see,but I think that VWIC may not be support for certain
configs under CCM.
I remember that Pre-4.0 SR somthing would not support MGCP on that card
on the ISR router.

Later,
Jim

So long as both voice T1s have same clock source. Check with your telco if clock source is the same. I have this working in many places. However when the two T1s have different clocks it won't work with voice.

Two data T1s can have seperate clock sources is what the enhanced clocking means.

The ISR backplane with the DSPs only allow one clock source for voice total. You need to add a NM-HDV/MFT if you have voice with another clock source. Say a local voice T1 and a long distance voice T1 from another carrier.

Not if all 4 T1s are clocking line. The ISR DSPs and backplane can only
have a single clock source (show network clocks). Different carriers
have different clocks. You could put the second set of T1s on a NM-HDV
and it seperates the DSPs from the backplane clocking.

If the second provider lets you send them clocking (clock source
internal) it would work. They would have to clock from you, I doubt they
will support this.

Clocking problems show up in modem/fax/credit card communication with
slip/errored seconds failures. If it was voice calls only then the
clocking problems might not be noticeable.

Hello Jason and sorry to bother you with this one. But let's say we have
2 VWIC-2MFT-T1 on the same ISR router making them 4 T1's and I have one
VWIC-2MFT-T1 with 2 T1's to one provider(the same provider both T1's on
the VWIC) and the other VWIC-2MFT-T1 with 2 T1's on other provider.
Would this scenario be supported and shouldn't receive slip errors at
all? This without any NM-HDV or another hardware. Up to now you gave me
the most clear answer with the clocking issues. Thanks for all your
help.

The preferred solution would have a ISR for each telco carrier. I also
like to make voice gateways just voice gateways. Not data routers.
