Transcoding requires hardware DSPs. Yes, I would recommend using a dedicated MRG/L for this hardware transcoder that is local to the Lync Mediation server. From: cisco-voip-bounces [at] puck [mailto:cisco-voip-bounces [at] puck] On Behalf Of Erick Wellnitz Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2012 10:40 AM To: cisco-voip Subject: [cisco-voip] media resource sanity check For whatever reason, upper management likes Lync audio conferencing and wants to integrate it with Cisco. Lync uses G711 between cisco and the Mediation server. So I need to transcode at the site local to Lync from all other sites. 1. Could I use MTP (IOS software MTP) so I don't need to use DSP resources for the transcoder? My intended design is this: Remote sites Lync site WAN Site 1 ---------- |-------------------Transcode/MTP --------------Lync WAN Site 2 ---------- Create device pool/region for Lync Create a dp/region for the transcoder/MTP Set G711 between transcoder region and Lync region Set g729 between all other regions and transcoder region Put transcoder/MTP in each site MRG Put ONLY this transcoder/MTP in the lync mrg 2. Would I also need to create a mrg to use for the transcode DP so it only uses this transcoder? itevomcid
