cucm, unity, uccx upgrade to version 7

i am trying to upgrade UC systems to version 7.
my company currently have CUCM version 6.1, Unity 5, and UCCX 5.

my question is this: my consultant company told us if we want to upgrade any
of the servers, i must upgrade all the servers(UCCM, Unity, and CRS) to
version 7 at the same time??
is this true? i hope they are wrong.

we want to upgrade CUCM first than upgrade the other servers later or
upgrade Unity and CRS first than upgrade CUCM later.

anyone done this upgrade these servers before?

thanks,

Unity is pretty much version independant, it uses TSP to communicate -
you just have to ensure your version of Unity supports the versions of
TSP that CUCM v7 supports.

UCCX on the other hand is tightly integrated and much more dependant
on CUCM versions. They (Cisco) were trying to work out an N-1
compatibility roadmap, however, I don't think that's worked out. As
far as I know you have to match version to version.

Check out the compatibilty matrices for exacts.

my new understanding is that you upgrade all your other applications then
CM.

So, what I understand from SE is that UCCx you can upgrade to ver7 and leave
Cm at 6.x then upgrade CM later.

Unity is all based on TSP thus it works with about anything.

But as for the Servers........ you will have to check to see what hardware
is compatible with the Version of software.

UC has way to high of specs vs unity. --> it does NOT promote people moving
from Unity to UC.

just my 2 cents

I am in the middle of doing this for a customer...

So here goes:
I suspect you are on CCX ver 5.0(2) that supports CCM 6.0 and 6.1
To upgrade to 7.0 for that you will need to upgrade CCX to 7.0 and then upgrade CCM to 7.0--
CCX 7.0 supports CUCM 6.1 and 7.0. (check the SR # on the link below...)
Check out
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_compatibility/matrix/crscomtx.pdf
Page 25 is what you are likely going to want to see....

I hope this helps...
