Printing from CCMAdmin

Has anyone come up with a solution to print off pages from CCMAdmin in
the 5.x+ version of CUCM?

We recently upgraded from 4.1.3 to 6.1.3 and like the new CCMAdmin--on
screen. But it does not print well, especially anywhere that there are
scroll bars.

Bill

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

If it's anything like Connection, it's all framed based. So you have to be in the right frame (of mind), right click, then print this frame.

Try that and see what it's like.

If you've tried it, let us know and maybe we can find something else.

snagit.

it has like a 30 day trial which worked well for capturing UCCx config
before my upgrade.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

This looks like a good product for "print what you see" but I am also
looking to print what is lower on the page.

For example we have a parameters config or device config or something
that is lengthy and causes scrollbars to appear. I want to print what's
in that scrolling frame area. Don't need the Cisco headers at the top
of the page, just the data, but all of the data without grabbing
multiple screen images and printing each.

Thanks
Bill

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

are you using IE or FF?

FF lets me print by frame. and IE let's me do a print preview, then select each frame.

after that, I get the whole output.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

I think Connection's web interface is different than CUCM 6.x.

Those options definitely aren't there for me. If it were a frame I
think it would be easier to deal with, in the way that you mention.

Thanks
Bill

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Wow. I'm surprised. The connection install disk is the same as CUCM install disk.

Then again, I'm on v7, so maybe it's different in v6.

Sorry couldn't be of more help.

did you try the scrolling window (web page)
or is there multiple frames with each one having a scroll to it?

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Yeah, I think what we are seeing there is two frames, the left frame
with the menu and the right frame with the data. This is not what
CCMAdmin for CUCM 6 is like. I examined the HTML source and there are
no FRAME tags to be found. Sorry, apples and oranges.

What about using something like CutePDF - and then printing the .pdf
that is generated. Just a thought.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

I don't print stuff from ccmadmin, but just for kicks, I went into
Devices->Phones and displayed the first 50.

File->Print Preview in Firefox only showed one page.

I used SnagIt's "Scrolling Window" capture feature, and it gave me a single
picture of all 50 phone (but not the menus at the top)

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Hi Bill,

We have seen this request come into TAC a few times. However, we're
still lacking clarity.

Why are prints are necessary? New features such as BAT export and AXL
should generate text based reports and displace the need for printing.
Worst case scenario 'run sql ...' from CLI. Or, even better, just take
a backup and save it off to a safe place.

But why do you want prints? They cannot be migrated or used for
anything other than stare-and-compare which is a very manual and error
prone process.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Wes,

Printing serves multiple purposes. It's not so much for a "backup" (although that is useful), but more for procedural events for example. I print many pages off for documentation, reference, training, "check off" lists, etc.

BAT export and AXL are not always an option, where the print button is.

I'm truly surprised that printing in CCM v6 is an issue.

Please, someone tell me it's not in v7.

Hi Bill,

We have seen this request come into TAC a few times. However, we're
still lacking clarity.

Why are prints are necessary? New features such as BAT export and AXL
should generate text based reports and displace the need for printing.
Worst case scenario 'run sql ...' from CLI. Or, even better, just take
a backup and save it off to a safe place.

But why do you want prints? They cannot be migrated or used for
anything other than stare-and-compare which is a very manual and error
prone process.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

It’s the same in v7. I’m not sure that I could call it a problem with the Comm Manager though. It’s more of a problem with the browser. Frames are a thing of the past and CSS is the new way to do it, browsers should take that into account.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Interesting. I wonder how close the CUCM and CUC v7 interfaces are.

I'm not having a problem printing from within CUC v7. Unless I'm missing something.

Oh well, time will tell.

Maybe Cisco will bundle "printing" in their Operations Manager software. ;)

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

We run a large cluster with various types of people accessing the
information. Some are technical people, others are not. Consultants
want to print customer's information and take this as a reference when
meeting with the customer. It sounds like this could possibly be
accomplished through the BAT and AXL stuff you are mentioning. So we
have to program a major interface just so our consultant users can do
what they used to do, easily, in CCM 4.1?

What it seems Cisco is lacking is the understanding that not only
technical people will be using their software. I personally could not
care less to print. I hate paper clutter. But others in our
organization rely on this in the workflow process.

This is especially obvious in the design of CCMUser. CCMUser is just
CCMAdmin retooled for user access. Makes sense to tech people but when
our average users got into it, they were puzzled. Why do they need to
put in queries for their fast dials/PAB? Why doesn't it just show them
the list and allow them to easily edit? Why are there a zillion clicks
necessary? Why do they get a (single) drop down menu and a giant Cisco
splash page rather than a sensibly laid-out home page? CCMUser is not
for users at all.

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Hi Wes,

I logged several feature requests about 18 months ago with our local Cisco SE, one was for a solution to this issue in CUCM6.0. The biggest impact for my customer was the 99 Speed Dials / Abbreviated Dial list and the ability for the user to print and/or export/import these details so they could pin above the phone for reference or provide to another user taking over their position (common in legal profession). Unfortunately this issue has still been overlooked today in CUCM7.1.

Obviously the end-user does not have access to BAT or 'run sql', therefore the only workaround (without installing 3rd party apps) at the time was to shrink-to-fit on A3 paper.

Regards,

Ben

Re: Printing from CCMAdmin [In reply to]

Cut and paste into an excel spreadsheet from 6.0's web interface works
pretty well FF if you're good with a mouse...

You can usually paste stuff into word or excel and sometimes it even
keeps the pretty formatting =)

...At least, it works OK on my Mac ;)
