Cisco 2801 - PRI

Hello All,

I am trying to configure a pri on a cisco 2801 but I get the following message:

(config-controller)#pri-group timeslots 1-24
% Not enough DSP resources available to configure pri-group on controller T1 0/1
/1
% The remaining dsp resources are enough for 4 time slots.
% For current codec complexity, 2 extra dsp(s) are required to create this voice
port.

Can I fix it or is something wrong?

Re: Cisco 2801 - PRI [In reply to]

You can fix it. You have to buy a new PVDM2 card and install it in your router to bring up all of the channels.

Paul

This was working in another router and I just moved the card. I might sound dumb but is it the router is not able to handle?

Re: Cisco 2801 - PRI [In reply to]

Need to have PVDM2-XX (need 24 total channels total channels: type show diag
and look for PVDM, add em up and you'll get the total).

Keep in mind that a 2801 only supports a TOTAL of 30 PVDM channels.

2801 only supports 1 PRI, so if this isn't the first one, that's the issue.

Have to have ISDN switch type set first

Let me know what you get.

Re: Cisco 2801 - PRI [In reply to]

If you do a sow inventory on the router it will show you the amount of DSP's you have installed in the router. Moving the PRI card from one router to another will achieve nothing more than allowing a connection point for the ISDN.

You will at least 1 DSP per channel that your ISDN service has, eg if it is a 30 channel ISDN then you need at least 30 DSP's (comes in certain numbers though).

Re: Cisco 2801 - PRI [In reply to]

As you can see you have a PVDM2-8.

You're lacking two channels. You'll have to either add another PVDM2-8 (or something else smaller than that..I don't think there is anything smaller than that...) or you can buy yourself a PVDM2-16 and install that.

Get ready to cough a few thousand dollars for that...

If you do a sow inventory on the router it will show you the amount of DSP’s you have installed in the router. Moving the PRI card from one router to another will achieve nothing more than allowing a connection point for the ISDN.

You will at least 1 DSP per channel that your ISDN service has, eg if it is a 30 channel ISDN then you need at least 30 DSP’s (comes in certain numbers though).

Need to have PVDM2-XX (need 24 total channels total channels: type show diag and look for PVDM, add em up and you’ll get the total).

Keep in mind that a 2801 only supports a TOTAL of 30 PVDM channels.

2801 only supports 1 PRI, so if this isn’t the first one, that’s the issue.

Have to have ISDN switch type set first

Unfortunately you don't have enough PVDM channels.

In order to fire up a PRI, you need that PVDM to be at least 24 channels
(the one here is only 8). You would have to pull this one and put in a
PVDM2-32 to be able to accomplish what you need.

Re: Cisco 2801 - PRI [In reply to]

Since you are using 2801, you must have ordered the voice bundle. It
has 1-PVDM8. I think you will needa minimum PVDM 16 but should check
the dsp calculator for total number of DSPs required:

You only need a PVDM-16 to bring up a 24 channel PRI.

Yes, but there is also a VIC2-4FXO in Slot 0, which needs half of the
capacity of the PVDM2-8. So a PVDM2-32 is needed.

Correct. I was trying to clear up the idea that channels were equal to the
model of PVDM you purchased.
