FXO Outgoing Call Problem

http://www.medicineforthedefense.com/
Trying to setup some FXO ports for the first time in CallManager 5.1.3,
and having some trouble with outbound calls. Inbound are working
perfect, but when I try to place an outbound call out through the route
list with the FXO port, it just sits for about 10-15 seconds, then comes
back with a fast busy.

Here's the output of "debug vpm signal" - any ideas?

Re: FXO Outgoing Call Problem [In reply to]

If you reverse the wires that are connected to an fxo it doesn't get correct voltage reversal and the line that is will drop. This is called a wink start trunk. So you flip the pair and test your fxo

Still not making a lot of sense I’m afraid. When I’ve got an analog phone hooked directly up, it works perfectly both inbound and outbound. When I’ve got it connected with a RJ11 to the FXO port on a 3845 (set for MGCP), inbound works, but not outbound. I tried just switching the RJ45 ends, but that didn’t make any difference.

OK,
When you are using the fxo port as a two way analog trunk connected to the Central office/Telco,
This is when a flipped pair somewhere along the Telco facilities can cause problems
your log tells me that the fxo isn't getting correct voltage wink because pair has been flipped or rolled or crossed

Also I have provided your log from your last post and underlined and bolded to indicate what the log is showing me

Redo the rj-11 plug on your fxo port and swap tip and ring.

If you reverse the wires that are connected
to an fxo it doesn't get correct voltage reversal and the line that is will
drop. This is called a wink start trunk. So you flip the pair and test your fxo

Brand new building, just wired up. Punched down from the demark into the
data center, then RJ11 from those ports into the FXO port on the
gateway. Using an analog phone on the ports in the data center works
perfectly.

Re: FXO Outgoing Call Problem [In reply to]

http://www.medicineforthedefense.com/
Well, I think I've figured out the issue - the lines need to be set for
loop start, not ground start. I've got another port working perfectly
set for loop start, but... when I delete this port, recreate it as loop
start then try to use it, the debug messages are still saying it's set
for ground start.

I've tried deleting it (CallManager says it's set for loop start),
waiting a while, then re-creating it again as loop start, and the debug
messages continue to say it's set for ground start. Anybody ever run
into anything like this?

Re: FXO Outgoing Call Problem [In reply to]

Actually we do. we have the same problem and the temporary work around that
we found is configure the port using H.323 and remove the MGCP configuration
on the port. we are going to open a TAC case to start troubleshooting this
problem.
we have 8 FXO on 2 gateways that are used as backup trunks and we have the
exact same problem

Re: FXO Outgoing Call Problem [In reply to]

The port was set up with ground start. Statistically speaking,
there's a low chance your circuit is actually ground start.

In the CUCM page, if it's MGCP, you can change this to loop start,
then reset the gateway (or port).

Otherwise, it's on the voice port configuration:

voice-port 0/1/2
signal loopstart
shutdown
no shutdown

Re: FXO Outgoing Call Problem [In reply to]

The setting in CUCM simply tells MGCP auto-configuration to change it.

If auto-configuration is not working, then this would cause this problem.

You can change this manually by using:

voice-port 0/1/2
signal loopstart
shut
no shut

You may also want to add 'ccm config'
