Still problems with Cherokee on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS

Hi all,

I reported problems with Cherokee 0.99.38 and 0.99.39 on ubuntu 8.04
server a while ago. I did not have the time to dig deeper then, but
today I upgraded on 0.99.42 and still have the same issues. Would be
glad if someone could point me to possible solutions or help me
narrowing down the problem:

#####
Current situation:

- I started with a fresh cherokee 0.99.42 install on Ubuntu 8.04 server
from the PPA, the old installation has been purged. Standard configuration.

- the Cherokee Test Page is not shown when trying to access the server
with a browser, a 404 error is thrown instead. The symlinked index.html
exists in /var/www/, however, and correctly points to
usr/share/cherokee/default-site/index.html

- /about/ is displayed correctly, however, and I can access the
/cherokee_themes/ via the browser, too.

- in cherokee.error, if find the following entries
[30/01/2010 17:40:52.118] (error) fdpoll-epoll.c:140 - epoll_ctl: ep_fd
6, fd 3: 'Bad file descriptor'

#####
History:

- Cherokee was working fine for 6-7 months, serving 2 Dokuwiki-Instances
(PHP), a Django-Application and static content

- latest working installation was Cherokee 0.99.29 - after I upgraded
from there to 0.99.38, things stopped working

- i have a backup of my last working config, but while my settings are
correctly displayed in the Admin, only the Django application kind of
works - media files that are served via the static content handler
don't, for example

- I did not make any changes to permissions or paths of the respective
applications or files

####
My priorities:

- get the fresh install of Cherokee running soundly

- then try to use my backuped cherokee.conf to restore my settings

- alternatively, I'd also try to rebuild my config manually, if there
should be problems with the old cherokee.conf file

####
Context:

- I have a nearly identical set up Cherokee 0.99.42 running on my local
machine, on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. No problems here...

Any help is much appreciated.
Gregor

Re: Still problems with Cherokee on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS - solved [In reply to]

Please ignore the last mail. I hate to admit this, but it *was* a
permission issue :(

While I checked the permissions of my web content (folders and files) a
thousand times, I completely ignored the parent folder.

While I still have no idea why/how the permissions changed (never
touched it), cherokee is working fine, now that I corrected them.

Best wishes
Gregor
