How do you encode your videos?

Hey,
I would like Cherokee to stream my videos. Right now I'm using ffmpeg to
generate .flv files which are very bad quailty.
What do you use to generate your videos? I thought I might switch to h264
files.

Any ideas? What command line do you use?

Thank you!

I have found WinFF (not just windows but mac/linux too) as a good
frontend to ffmpeg. If ffmpeg has problems, you can try mencoder.

Thanks, but it's seems like WinFF is simply a GUI for FFMpeg. I don't want
the GUI...

I'm looking for some command line tool that my server would run automaticlly
when a user uploads a video.
FFMpeg seems good, but I get confused by all it's options so I thought
someone could share what he uses to produce YouTube-like videos.

Yo'av.

Maybe the best question; what commandline do *YOU* use now.

First result in Google for "mencoder flv":
http://www.jeremychapman.info/cms/mencoder-avi-to-flv-conversion

I've just transcoded a video I had around and it seems to produce a
very similar quality to that of the "standard" YouTube videos. However,
I'd produce h264 flv videos (just like the HQ YouTube videos).

Sadly we cannot provide seeking support yet.

Re: How do you encode your videos? [In reply to]

Hey,
Right now I'm using this simple command, which seems to always work:

ffmpeg -i video.mpg -ar 22050 video.flv
>

But I get pretty bad quailty videos.

I didn't notice Cherokee doesn't support h264 seeking. I'll stick to flv
then.

Armando - I'll try that, thanks. I forgot about mencoder

Thanks.
