cherokee and slowloris

Hi,

I have read that Cherokee isn't vulnerable for slowloris.
I checked it with the perl slowloris script but my cherokee is too busy
answering on all requests?
I am using the CentOS Epel 5 repository version 0.99.11 ..is this
version vulerable to slowloris?
Or should I've been configuring some anti DoS rules in cherokee that I
forgot? :)

Kind regards,

Michiel

We are at 0.99.19 and since a lot of interesting things happen in each
version I suggest to update and re-run the test.

Hmm..I am not a big fan of compiling from source..that is why I like the
yum repo's.
Will ask the Fedora people if it is possible, I also read that the new
release will perhaps have a CentOS binary?

Strange a website can totally change over night ;) But If you really
want to get into security, you might want to start to become a fan of
'the source'.

Since cherokee is probably a very easy package to compile you can take a
shot:

./configure --prefix=/opt/cherokee && make && make install

I don't know who is the Fedora maintainer, but binaries are always too
late ;)

and I see they have a latest-tarball link so I can script ugrades , nice :)

Perhaps a stupid question but when I upgrade my binary installed
cherokee will I still have the ssl, php support etc?
And I am having trouble what my prefix is (since it is installed from
yum/rpm) , is it one of those?

/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_server_info.so
/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_ssi.so
/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_streaming.so
/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_w3c.so
/usr/lib/cherokee/libplugin_wildcard.so
/usr/sbin/cherokee
/usr/sbin/cherokee-admin
/usr/sbin/cherokee-worker
/usr/share/cherokee
/usr/share/cherokee/admin
/usr/share/cherokee/deps
/usr/share/cherokee/icons
/usr/share/cherokee/themes
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/CherokeeManagement.py
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/CherokeeManagement.pyc
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/CherokeeManagement.pyo
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Entry.py
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Entry.pyc
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Entry.pyo
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Form.py
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Form.pyc
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Form.pyo
/usr/share/cherokee/admin/Module.py

I think /usr/share/cherokee ?

svn is nice too, --enable-maintainer-mode would be a nice flag too then.

If your base system has the development libraries / headers of ssl, yes.
PHP is a different thing because cherokee using php-cgi, so it will be
always available.

If you prefix it in /opt/cherokee then you have to start it with:

/opt/cherokee/sbin/cherokee (or -admin)

Is there a special announcement list which has less traffic then this
main cherokee list? (just for updates etc.)

Ah ok ..nice :)
A question about the php configuration:
I can choose between a local socket file or an external link to
127.0.0.1:9000.
Which one is faster? I think the network version but I can be wrong?

[root[at]pcintelw01 scripts]# which cherokee
/usr/sbin/cherokee

so mine would be /usr right? :)

Dev maybe.

Unix sockets should be faster for localhost, since there is no tcp/ip
protocol overhead.

But that is your yum installed one, and probably not the one you
installed using the last configure.

I installed only the yum one..I am running it now with /usr but it
doesn't seem to see my virtual hosts after the upgrade?

Upgrade to what? If you indeed upgraded from .11 to .19 there might be a
configuration change you were not aware of I guess.

Our /source/ distribution contains an contrib directory with upgrade
scripts if a configuration change was present.

Hmm which .py script is it?
I can not find a 0.11 to 0.19 upgrade script.

Mmm.. there is none. I think your configuration was overwritten by the
/fantastic/ yum system?

If you are lucky there is still a backup in the configuration directory.

Huh,
I installed the yum version, and then I installed from source..and the
contrib is in the source..what has YUM to do with it?

I got my backups but don't got an upgrade script which is provided by
the source

So did you remove the yum version before you installed it from source?

Anyway there was a reason why i suggested not to install it in the root
of your file system. Because mostlikely the configuration file is now
somewhere where it wasn't previously.

As if it was not found...

No but that doesn't matter..or I am doing something wrong:
I just installed over my yum version ( I know..not super) but the
contrib directory is in the source and AFTER the yum installation..it is
in /var/tmp/cherokee-0.99.19/contrib but now script from 09-10 on..

It is still in /etc/cherokee/cherokee.conf and I symlinked it to
/usr/etc/cherokee/cherokee.conf

I can remove the yum version by rpm -e cherokee but I don't think it
will provide me the upgrade script?
