I've the same problem...
After recompiling Cherokee with the following:
[gour [at] s gour] cherokee -i
Compilation

Arguments to
configure: '--prefix=/home/gour' '--with-wwwroot=/home/gour/www' '--with-wwwuser=gour' '--with-wwwgroup=gour' '--disable-ipv6' '--disable-pam' '--disable-pthread'

Data dir: /home/gour/share/cherokee
Icons dir: /home/gour/share/cherokee/icons

Support
IPv6: no
Pthreads: no
Tracing: no
sendfile(): yes
syslog(): yes
Polling methods: select poll epoll
iow, by adding '--disable-ipv6' '--disable-pam' '--disable-pthread'
now I can start Cherokee, but I wonder what will happen with its peformance
due to '--disable-pthread' ?
The system is:
Linux 2.6.34.5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 24 10:41:10 CEST 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Any hint?
