Re: Cherokee 0.99.26 released [In reply to]

ok, so one last time I will ask this Open Source project: is it
properly compilable under windows, WITH a proper compile engine...

I ask this, because I have attempted without luck, in several
cross-compile OS's: centos, fedora, ubuntu... all have failed.
EVEN with the kind help of individuals on this distribution list.

If this release does NOT have a proper windows compile enviornment, i
will throw in the towel, and finally realize that this Open Source
project isn't really for windows at all.

I'll be investigating a more stable web server: Appweb

its now time to put up or shut up about your "windows ports".
your statement about the windows environment being broken is now over
2 years old?
take ownership for once, and please indicate that this project ISN'T
focused in the windows enviornment.

thank you

Re: [Cherokee] Cherokee 0.99.26 released [In reply to]

Leonel, are you using Karmic's new(ish) methods for service maintenance?

One example: To restart gdm, you used to call:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

It's now:
sudo restart gdm

Same with stop, start and status.

Forgive me, I don't know what has happened to make this change but it would
be cool if all services behaved in the same way. I don't like change for the
sake of change, but in this case, I like the syntax!

Is it because they've started to integrate with upstart better?

Edit before sending: I just ran /etc/init.d/gdm status (the old method) on a
Karmic box and got this back:

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service gdm status

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the status(8) utility, e.g. status gdm
gdm start/running, process 1307

MingW32 does the trick for me. Since I published all my changes to get
Cherokee running on Windows and make recent annoucements if something new
is working... I kinda miss your point :)

I'm not even a Windows user ;)

As far as my chat history goes, I have offered you help; and you never
accepted it.

So I kinda don't get your point there are (recent) windows binaries, if
you are a windows user, use them, if you are a developer unable to set up
a proper cross compiler system ask for help. But don't start crying if
there are binaries and your only motivation for 'your own binaries' are
'your own binaries'.

Re: Cherokee 0.99.26 released [In reply to]

Stefan, you either have the shortest memory of any human being, or
your on crack, and your brain is fried.

Yes I specifically got most of my ideas, including the patches YOU offered.
I have tried all of the "cross compile" on windows USING MingW32 on
SEVERAL different Linux distros.

ALL have failed. This is NOT because of my effort to do anything, its
because the CODE IS DAMAGED, and not PROPERLY maintained for
WINDOWS...

Stefan, your spewing crap from your mouth, because i wouldn't give you
any money to help me with the compile to WINDOWS.
On top of that YOU YOURSELF, told me that the WINDOWS compile isn't
all that staple, and its slow and bloated.

so why would I want to invest my time, and the future of my Open
Source product I want to offer to?
I've already invested over 35 hours of my own personal time to this
windows defunct project.

I'm only ranting, because of the limited help, and the fact that this
project doesn't properly state the TRUE nature of the windows port.
i keep all our conversations. so if you forgot, I can easily do a copy
and paste to this development list.

Strange, I use Gentoo, and it never let me down with respect to proper
cross compiling toolchain. Since I have Cherokee running on probably more
different architectures than anyone here, I can trust on that knowledge,
since on all of them I can serve files with Cherokee.

I didn't ask you money to set up gentoo :) You (still) didn't provide me
any VMware image to give you a cross compaile envirionment.

Windows is unused, untested; where the words slow and bloated come from I
don't know :) Oh and I keep also all my convo's; and I kinda miss where
you went from 'willing to try' into 'trolling'.

Not yet
For what I know is that upstart must be used for Lucid Lynx (10.04)
so the official inclusion will be done.

Even upstart is used on ubuntu since Edgy Eft

In the mean time I hope for the next cherokee release can start working on
the upstart integration

saludos .
