What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.hidden downloads setup ok
2.downloads running ok with filename like xxx.exe
3.make 403 status with strange filename like xxxx 3.5.2.exe or xxx-xx-xx-
3.5.2.exe

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
http 403 status

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
opensuse 11.1
nginx 0.8.17
PHP 5.2.9 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.7 (cli) (built: Mar 12 2009 21:16:18)

I have tried all your suggestions on the latest version of Cherokee
0.99.28; I cannot
reproduce the issues. What you say sounds like a 'special character'
problem. Like
space is encoded to %20 but not transformed back.

Some other pitfalls that you didn't point out but I want to type as
reference because
I was bitten by it myself when testing your problem. The 'encoded' URL
includes the
start /, if you forget it you are fubar.

I'm going to close it as invalid, I do want to thank you for pointing it
out, as
solution, upgrade to a new version. But don't hesitate to ping us if
something breaks
again :)
