Setting the USE-Flag to "Admin" with ufed gets me somewhat further but not
to the goal:

bind.c:284: Could not bind() port=9090 (UID=0, GID=0)

You are using a full ~x86 system, that usually is not a good idea. I see
you are
using too a 2007 profile, you need to use the new profile. As i can see you
have
compilled all the system with -Os, Why? is not a safe cflag. If you
optimize too much
the code you can get weird errors.
If you want the admin cherokee panle you ever need USE=admin, and finally,
you have 2
versions of python installed (2.4, 2.5) Did you run python-updater? and
revdep-rebuild? (it's important to read the messages gentoo give you after
each
compilation/update)

So i guess your cherokee-admin problem is about a mess in your system with
python
versions.
Run "cherokee" manually to see daemon errors.

If 9090 is in use, it is most likely because you already have something
else (maybe
even another cherokee-admin running). I'm not going into the Gentooism ;)
/me is a
happy Gentoo user with much more unstable CFLAGS :)

I've addressed the log permissions issue in Funtoo, which will prevent
cherokee from starting (even though it
says it starts, it will die) and thus cause lots of other problems:

http://github.com/funtoo/portage/commit/df9a4a1f7e7ce4e8d6b468a60a6e0261b1cc2fe0

Thanks Daniel! Cherokee now starts up smoothly!

Web Interface:
URL: http://127.0.0.1:9090/

Cherokee Web Server 0.99.19 (Jun 29 2009): Listening on port
127.0.0.1:9090, TLS
disabled, IPv6 disabled, using epoll, 1024 fds system limit, max. 505
connections, caching I/O, single thread

And guess what! Now I even get the Admin-Interface! Nice! Long Live Funtoo!

Now when I hit "launch Server" Button in the Admin Interface I get:

Could not launch the server

Something happened while launching the server. The error reported by the
server follows:

bind.c:284: Could not bind() port=80 (UID=0, GID=0)

Ok, this was my bad! I had Apache running on Port 80! Cherokee now runs
smoothly on
my Gentoo, after stopping Apache from using port 80.
