Hi Iván, It would appear to me that your IT department really wants to avoid using anything other than the tools they've "standardise" on. This is usually done in an attempt to keep hiring and training costs under control. I think it's misguided, but it's going to be really hard to fight. I've got some specific responses in-line. ____________________________________ From: Iván Chavero Sent: Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 10:04:54PM +0200 To: To users [at] lists Subject: Bricolage evaluation > Hello, > > We're implementing bricolage for the chihuahua's state goverment website > here in méxico and the IT people came up with the usual inquiries > regarding the software. > Instead of writing the justificacions by myself, this time, i want to > try the community wisdom so i can be sure i won't miss any point. > Here are the inquiries: > > - It's not pouplar and it's not very used > > this one i think is irrelevant since popularity does not imply quality > > - Yo have to know HTML > > Actually you don't, the desing is defined and there should be no > need for the user to code HTML, and we can sanitize the stories on the > templates > > - The progamming languages (perl and mason) and the DBMS (postgresql) > are not currently in use by the it personal of the goverment You're going to face a real fight here. IT departments don't like to add new platforms to their catalogue. The good news is that Postgres administration has been a lot easier since version 8.2 or so. > - The operating system (Linux) is not currenty in use by the it personal Well, there has to be a first, no? I suppose they're using windows now, no? Microsoft are pretty much on their last legs as evidenced by their trying to sue their way back to profitability, so you'll have to switch eventually anyway. If you lose on this point at least you have a valuable stock tip. > - There are no Industry evaluations that qualify it In fact I think the J. Boye group have evaluated it and it did pretty well. > - They say that they've evaluated tools with better features and > programming languages used by the goverment like: Alfresco, DotNetNuke, > Open Text, etc... It always depends on what you want to do. Alfresco is a portal server, think of it as Free sharepoint. The others do what they do. > - They claim websphere is better That's not a CMS, it's an application server. It's like comparing apples and oak trees. -- .......................................................................... : Mark Jaroski : Room 9016 : World Health Organization : +41 22 791 16 65 : ..........................................................................
