Show Desk Asset Counts performance

Bricoleurs,
I have set up a testing instance of Bric 2.0.1 and successfully copied
all of our Bric 1.10.9 data to it. Unfortunately, I've run into a
performance snag.
When "Show Desk Asset Counts" is on, it takes in excess of 10 minutes to
simply refresh your Workspace (or any page with the sidenav, really).
When this preference is off, the system performs normally. I should
note some of our users (admins) have access to up to 196 Workflows, so
the query to find desk asset count runs a gazillion times. Has anyone
else experienced this kind of slowness? Is there anything I can do
other than disable this feature?
We do *not* experience any apparent slowness with this feature enabled
in our Bric 1.10.9 instance.
