[Bricolage-Devel] Damned <Perl> Bugs

I've about had it with the <Perl> section Location directive bugs in
mod_perl. I'm certain they're what's causing the problem documented in
Bug # 110.

http://bricolage-bugzilla.thepirtgroup.com/show_bug.cgi?id=110

I am inclined to give up Bric::App::ApacheConfig and to write instead a
separate Apache configuration file and document that it should be loaded
via the Apache include directive.

include /usr/local/bricolage/conf/bric_httdp.conf

This configuration file would still use some Location directives in Perl
sections, but far fewer of them. Plus, it would have the PerlPassEnv
directive, so the Bricolage admin wouldn't have to add *that* to her
httpd.conf, too.

I think I can do these changes in a couple of hours, but wanted to get a
bit of feedback, first. I do want to get the new config in 1.2.1, one
way or another, and I want to get 1.2.1 out in the next couple of days.

TIA for the feedback.

David

I agree - this is the best thing to do for now. This is actually the same
decision I was forced to make about two years ago... I started a project
using <Perl> blocks to dynamically configure Apache. I ran into some
serious bugs and switched to a templating solution. I had hoped things
had gotten better since then but it seems the bugs have just moved around
instead of going away!
