The Bulk Publish feature in story search works for this purpose, no?

I believe that Matt's referring to those times when you want to programmatically update a whack of stories, e.g.: removing a certain element from them, or migrating one element to another, etc. And, instead of using SOAP, sometimes it's just easier / faster to put that updating code *into* a story template and to just preview the story to run it.

Certainly that's not the "Right Way(tm)" to do this, but it does raise an interesting question / idea about a simple "console-ish" way for a developer to test a bit of code _in_ the Bricolage UI ... think of it like an SQL query window in a GUI SQL app, where you can just dump in a bunch of code to run and hit "run" and see the results. That would help a lot when designing code selects and similar type stuff that often gets tested in story templates.

Phillip.

Phillip is spot on in his assessment. I like the "console" idea.

As to it being the "Right way," it is the only way in many instances. SOAP is useful, but it is not the best tool for all mass change operations.
