failed to establish umbilical to moderator

Hi
I'm getting the following error messages in the error log of the front
end server.
(111)Connection refused: Child 8122 failed to establish umbilical to
moderator!
I have to restart apache to resolve the problem.
This is the backhand entry in the httpd.conf file.

UnixSocketDir /usr/local/apache/backhand
MulticastStats 212.43.240.18:4445
AcceptStats 212.43.240.16/28
BackhandConnectionPools Off
</IfModule>
This is the config for the virtual host that backhand is load balancing.
<Directory /usr/local/apache/htdocs/blah>
Backhand removeSelf
Backhand byAge
Backhand byLoad
Backhand bySession
</Directory>
Can anyone shed light on the reason for the messages.
