Backhand for Apache 2.0 [In reply to]

Plans, but only plans.

The plan is to break mod_backhand into two pieces: (a) resource
collection and logic and (b) intelligent plumbing and decision
framework.

(a) will be backhand 2.0
(b) will be in mod_proxy (or any other program that wants to make smart
decisions)

A quick reason why I am not motivated to do that. Apache 2 is really
in its infancy. All the Apache interaction that I have is with
Apache/mod_perl. mod_perl is becoming thread safe, but the plethora of
modules on CPAN are not. So, it will be a long time before I can run
Apache+mod_perl+CPAN modules with the threaded MPM.

I am sorry to hear it may be a while. We run a few large
Apache/mod_perl implementations running across 30 servers with
backhand. We have successfully ported those applications to
Apache2/mod_perl - with a 10 fold performance increase. Unfortunately,
we can't take advantage of that without backhand.
