Unresolved symbols in ivtv-fb.o - dependency error

Hello,

I ran apt-get (via synaptic) to install support under RH9 for a pvr-350
pci card (wintv)but got the dependency error below.

<RECIEVED ERROR>
atrpms-52-1.rh9.at

While installing package ivtv-firmware-2.02.023-3.at:

strictdep-kernel-kmdl-2.4.20-30.9-1-1.rh9.at

While installing package ivtv-kmdl-2.4.20-30.9-0.1.9-25.rh9.at:

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.20-30.9/updates/drivers/media/video/ivtv-fb.o
depmod: rwsem_wake
depmod: rwsem_down_read_failed
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.20-30.9/updates/drivers/media/video/ivtv.o
depmod: video_unregister_device_Rdff36ff9
depmod: video_register_device_R5da67a2f
perl-Config-IniFiles-2.38-2.rh9.at
perl-Tk-800.024-6.rh9.at
perl-Video-Frequencies-0.03-1
</RECIEVED ERROR >

Thinking maybe I could uninstall the package and set it aside until
another version came along. I noticed synaptic was upgrading a smp kernel
and ivtv-smp-kmdl package. I am just using a standard kernel though.
Double checking under the ivtv package dependencies it lists the
ivtv-smp-kmdl package. Funny though since why wouldn't synaptic have
tried to install that with the other packages when ivtv went in in the
first place.

It seems to go in (with ivtv-kmdl-2.4.20-30.9-0.1.9-25 and ivtv1:0.1.9-25
and is not listed as a broken package but I worry about the dependency
error.

Suggestions anyone?

This looks like ivtv depends on features existing in v4l2/videodev
enables kernels. Could you try to install an ATrpms kernel for Red Hat
and see if the corresponding kernel modules for ivtv work well there
(I know this combination is used in many RH9 boxes). Thanks!

If you only install ivtv, then apt/synaptic have a choice of quite a
lot of kernel modules to satisfy the dependencies and they pick one at
random. Some argue that it would have been nicer, if they could choose
by looking at the hardware of the box or the running kernel.

So you need to explicitely choose the kernel module matching your
architecture/kernel.

Either pick in synaptic the right kmdl, or do it from apt like

apt-get install {ivtv,alsa,<other kernel modules>}-kmdl-2.4.20-30.9

(change 2.4.20-30.9 to the kernel of your choice)
