Hi Axel, ah, I see. Thanks for your reply. I was using synaptic to install and update RPMs for the last couple of weeks, but I'm now considering going back to the command line to gain more control over the choice of packages. I already had the suspicion that some of the problems I have been running into for weeks now might be due to installation problems (e.g. installing ivtv and not getting any audio despite all the tricks and twists mentioned in various FAQs).
