why is older alsa-kmdl being selected

why is older alsa-kmdl being selected

I assume the kmdl is loading this ...

package alsa-kmdl-2.6.34.8-68.fc13-1.0.24-89.fc13.i686
(which is newer than alsa-kmdl-2.6.34.8-68.fc13-1.0.23-85.fc13.i686) is already installed

I haven't seen this before. The kmdl plugin does try to trigger an
update of all kmdls, but leaves the specifics to yum's engine. Try

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__*
rpm --rebuilddb
yum clean all

and retry. If it works something in the databases was messed up. If it
still has this issue, there is a bug in some code, either yum or the
plugin. But the plugin has been the same for ages and there haven't been
any similar issues in the past.

I've rebuilt rpm database but still occuring , is this a dependency issue ?

eg

I cannot reproduce it, and there are no other similar reports. After rpm
--rebuilddb, did you run yum check to see whether there are any strange
dependency issues present? Maybe that will help identifying the real
issue.

I have alsa-driver-1.0.24-89.fc13.x86_64.rpm installed,
with alsa-kmdl-2.6.34.9-69.fc13-1.0.23-85.fc13.x86_64.rpm.

1.0.24-89 kmdls exist in the repo for earlier kernels but apparently not
for this one. smart shows it as 'required' by the driver but installed
the one I have without complaint.

.. and sound seems ok on my simple analogue stereo system.

hmm,
I tried a few 'yum updates' this morning and issue seems to be gone now..
not sure what happened I didn't do anything on my end as far as I know,
apart from your suggestions and they didn't have any immediate affect.
anyway thanks for looking into it for me , I'll let you know if it
re-occurs.
