video4linux-kmdl: Invalid module format

Hi all,

It seems something wrong happened with latest
video4linux-kmdl-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5xen-20090907-91.el5 package:

# uname -a
Linux host 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5xen #1 SMP Tue Nov 3 16:48:13 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

OTOH, some modules from the
video4linux-kmdl-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5xen-20090907-91.el5 seems to work
correctly:

# modprobe ir-common
# modprobe qt1010
#

Am I doing something obviously wrong?

Thanks.

Downgrade module init tools to:

module-init-tools-3.3-0.pre3.1.42.el5.x86_64.rpm

and reboot.

I did. It helped. Thanks.

Reboot is not needed. :-)

Is it already reported as a bug somewhere?

Thanks.

I can't report to Red Hat because my kernel is tainted.

But maybe the best place should be the video4linux project, if we
find someone interested in RHEL there ...

Hm. Where the real problem is? In video4linux, in
module-init-tools, or in the kernel itself?

Thanks.

I have only seen this problem with the bttv / cx88 modules, when using
the new rhel 5.4 module-init-tools. I have no idea what Red Hat has changed.

Maybe there will be a next version which will fix the problem.
