Remote control issues with myth .22

Hello Guys,

I have just upgraded from myth bijou rev 211 to latest rev of myth .22 from
testing repo . The upgrade went relatively smoothly , one small issue did
arise after the upgrade . And this is the remote control . I have noticed
that my RC works well on the native myth applications , but programs like
mplayer , xine and vlc I can no longer control . My lircrc is still there as
was in myth .21 (where all worked ok) . So basically I can start a video
playback using the RC with mythvideo and it will start mplayer , and then
I have to go to the keyboard to stop it for example . Did they change how
the 3rd party programs are contoled now ? I did notice in one of the menus a
mention of lirc , that I do not remember from .21 . Also worth noting is
that I have a Zelman hd-160 case , and here I use a proprietary bit of
software made by irtrans , called irtrans server that runs my remote control
and lcd display . These bits of software are similar to lirc but are not
lirc . Having said that the standard ~.lircrc file and ~.mythtv/lircrc file
worked well for me under .21 .

PS . I also noticed that some keys in mythtv .22 do not work /do not work
the same . I guess the key shortcuts have changed . It would be good to get
an updated list of new short cut keys so that I can re-program my remote .

Best Regards

This is due to a bug related to Qt widgets; see
<URL:http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/atrpms/users/13115#13115>.
It has nothing to do with external applications; as I mention in the
message, the internal player is affected, too. The ticket to follow is
<URL:http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/6815> (and, yes, it is
disconcerting that a bug that makes MythVideo more or less unusable
hasn't seen any progress for two months and counting).

To clarify, while this is indeed a very serious bug in 0.22/trunk, I
suspect the reason there hasn't been any progress in two months is not
because the MythTV developers are slow but because it actually exposes
a bug in Qt4 and so is out of the developers' hands to that extent.

Hello Guys,

Thanks for your help . After a bit of digging around I have found the source
of the problem . I initially thought that I was not using lirc in my setup ,
as it turns out I was half right . Mythtv is not using lirc and that is why
it continued to work . However 3'rd party players such as mplayer xine etc
are using lirc . I did not notice at the time I upgraded to myth .22 from
atrpms-testing that a new lirc package sneaked in . Looks like it broke my
RC , because as soon as I backed it out , everything started working again .

Best Regards

The bug in question isn't a LIRC issue, per se; rather, the Qt widgets
used to draw the dialog box that asks whether to play a video from the
bookmark or from the start causes the mythfrontend window to lose
focus. Most people who use LIRC also use irxevent, which emulates a
keyboard; the loss of focus means the window can no longer see
keyboard commands. If .lircrc is written so that mythfrontend talks
directly to LIRC, the focus issue still occurs but won't block
commands, masking the issue.
