Reverting to nvidia 180.29 didn't solve it.

Reverting to xorg-x11-server-common 1.5.3-5.fc10 [at] x86-6 and
xorg-x11-server-Xorg 1.5.3-5.fc10 [at] x86-6
and *repeated* login in kde 4.2 with the required layout selected *has*
given me back my uk keyboard - or, strictly, these changes were made and
I now have a uk keyboard.

I'll perhaps try 180.35 again when I can - although I don't have VDPAU
hardware. Pity the two sets of updates came at the same time.

Looking at the change log section, there is:

* Fri Feb 06 2009 Peter Hutterer <peter.hutterer [at] redhat> 1.5.3-11
- Update 10-x11-keymap.fdi: only call fedora-setup-keyboard for devices with
input.capabilities = keyboard (#484217)

I bet if you just copy back the old 10-x11-keymap.fdi, it would have worked.

For the record: I just re-upgraded xorg-x11-server-common and
xorg-x11-server-Xorg to versions 1.5.3-13.fc10 from Fedora-updates and
got the US keyboard again. Replacing the new version of

> /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-keymap.fdi

by the old version, which contains just an unconditional

> fedora-setup-keyboard

does restore the UK keyboard for me, but didn't do it after a simple
logout: it needed a reboot. Perhaps /usr/bin/fedora-setup-keyboard
from the command line would have done the job.
