xvidcap - crash

Hello. I'm trying the latest xvidcap, version 1.6.6-9 with Fedora 8. No
success. I open it from the terminal window and push record: nothing.
The programsimply stops responding. Just the beggining gets recorded,
but I can't even eatch the 20kb video file it creates.

Does it work for you?

Thanks a lot
Luis Felipe

Same problem here. It works just fine in FC6, though.

I tried, in F8, the livna version and FC6 version, and got the same problem.

Therefore, I think that some lib dynamically linked to xvidcap should be
causing the issue.

Yes, I am the packager.

As I told you, if you have access to a computer running FC6,
it will work.

I have no idea what is causing the problem. I will try later to run on
Ubuntu and then contact the developer.

Re: xvidcap - crash [In reply to]

Sure, I've made a video using FC6 and xvidcap (a previous version), and it has worked nicely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-kut4lgzdw"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-kut4lgzdw

I'll also try with Ubuntu. Let's exchange experiences.

Thanks a lot.

Re: xvidcap - crash [In reply to]

I've tried with Ubuntu and it worked flawlessly!!

Really, it's so annoying a lot of programs working for Ubuntu but not Fedora. This isn't the first one. The latest version of k9copy also works great in Ubuntu but crashes in Fedora...

Have you contacted the developer?

Thanks,
Luis Felipe

The problem seems to be intermittent. If you try several times, sometimes it
works in Fedora, but is is ilk random. Ubuntu is always a little bit behind
Fedora, therefore it tends to be more stable.

I sent an email to the developer, but maybe it is better to post a comment
in the Forum or mailing list.

If I press the pause button before pressing the rec button,
it seems not to freeze anymore.

Can you confirm this?

The problem is libxcb and libX11 from F8. This also happened with Java:

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6532373

Installing libxcb 1.1 from Fedora development, and setting:

setenv LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK 1

avoids the locking most of the time, but the end of the video is always
lost.

Another possibility is to downgrade libX11 and libX11-devel for:

libX11-1.0.3-8.fc7.i386.rpm

But I can not go further than this. Sorry ...

What really works is to use libX11 and libX11-devel from Fedora 7. I Tested.

sudo rpm -Uvh --force .................
