Heads up: new libraw1394 coming

Just a heads up that a new libraw1394 should be coming Real Soon Now,
and it features merged support of both the ieee1394 and firewire stacks,
eliminating the need for building to a specific stack, so a forthcoming
Fedora libraw1394 build (likely libraw1394 2.0.0) will eliminate the
need for ATrpms to package its own libraw1394. Should probably hit
rawhide within a week, Fedora 8 and 9 a while after some testing.

thanks for the heads-up. Is this related to the libraw1394 upgrade
from today in F8? And will applications require a rebuild, or will
the ABI remain the same?

No, unrelated. The new libraw1394 in F8 fixes a segfault on exit from
dvgrab, specific to the juju firewire stack, no merged build just yet.

Some will, yes. Among other things, there's going to be a soname bump,
and...

...while most of the ABI will remain the same, some deprecated
functions/ioctls have been removed, which were apparently in use by
libdc1394 v1.0. The libdc1394 folks gave the changes the thumbs up
though, because they aren't used by libdc1394 v2.0.

Re: Heads up: new libraw1394 coming [In reply to]

F8 (update) includes libraw1394 now and fails to update.
Uninstalling libraw1394 causes many dependend applications to be uninstalled.
I assume other atrpms packages will be rebuild.
So for now updates will have to wait.

Transaction Check Error:
