New Turkish Documents

Hi,

I have made a package to include translations after the first batch.
This includes files that I sent you before but were not included in the
svn repository.

I hope it is OK to deliver translation files in such smaller batches.
Please let me know if you prefer a more appropriate size or schedule.

Also I believe nobody takes interest in the messages I send to the list.
It is like talking against a dead wall. So I decided not to send any
more patches to the list.

BR,
Nilgün

It's not that we are not interested, but there are not that many of us
and we all have real lives too.

If you dont see a reply within 4-5 days feel free to drop a note to poke
us.

However it is customary to send in patch files as opposed to complete
files, this way I (or another committer) can apply that patch against my
local copy and commit it, if it all works out. This still applies even
if they are new files.

If you dont use patch files I have to manually diff them against the
latest copy in svn, this may be problematic if you didnt apply your
updates against the same version as I do.

The frequency and size of updates does nt make a big difference.
However if you do send in an update with a large number of changes
someone may leave it until they have more time to sit down and review
it. If it is a smaller change this can easily be done quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

Same here. I believe I have waited long enough.

Today I sent to list a gzip package, and it was rejected because its size
exceeded 100kB. So it seems I will not be able to send larger packages
any way. At the same time, small packages do not get your proper
interest. This is the list of items that did not get any action:

1. A small package sent on March 28, 2008. This included one file per
version. Later I added the same into another package.
2. A patch sent on March 31, 2008. A rewriteguide link in sitemap.xml
was not correct, and the files under rewrite/ did not appear on sitemap.
3. A patch sent on April 1, 2008. Information regarding the Turkish team
needed correction in http://httpd.apache.org/docs-project/translations.html

I have noticed that in the same time frame, other people's patches were
applied properly. If there is a developer-contributor pairing, please
let me know who I am paired with.

Nilgün

We do not do developer-contributor pairing. However it has been easter
quite recently, as well as ApacheCon this week I know a lot of folks
have been extremely busy (myself included, but not for any of those reasons)

We dont want to lose your contributions. They are more than welcome.
However things can move slowly around here. It's not that they wont be
done, sometimes they all get done in spurts.

I know I sometimes find half a day to go through the back log of ML
messages and bugs that are still open. To that end I will try to commit
your outstanding messages in the next 2 days.

For this somewhat large collection you sent in this morning. Would you
please re-send them as diff's/patches? Adding them all manually will be
a very lengthy task, it will be much easier for you.

Once I see your patches for today's message I will add them ASAP. I'll
see if I can do it when I get home this evening.

Again, let me be clear. We are not ignoring you, I assure you. What
with recent busy periods and the speed at which the ML sometimes
operates at you seem to have caught the full length of the lag.

I'll see what I can do push your other messages through too.

Cheers,
Tony

Ok, your patches contain:

--- manual/bind.xml.tr 1970-01-01 02:00:00.000000000 +0200
+++ manual-working/bind.xml.tr 2008-04-03 14:45:20.000000000 +0300

Which is changing the working path, that is not right. :)

The same goes for your 2.2.x patch too.

Also the subject line says 2.0 and 2.2. I trust you have not mixed
these into one file? As the svn paths in your patch file do not
differentiate between 2.0 and 2.2, so if I apply this patch am I going
to mess up two different branches?

Also,

Attached you will find two patch files. One you created [1], and one I
created [2].

If you look in the top 3-4 rows you will see an immediate difference.
You are missing the "index" line, and as stated earlier your pathes are
being munged and are not correct.

What are you doing to produce the patches? Are you just using a
standard diff tool? Try using the SVN client to produce the diff if you
are not already doing so. This should help with the index line.
As for your munged path, are you editing in a different directory to the
docs you checked out of SVN? I'm not entirely sure what it is you are
doing here.

Also, I forgot to mention earlier - Have you setup the docs build
environment yet? If not I suggest you take a look at that too:

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/docs-build/trunk/

I only say this because you can then see for yourself how the document
is transformed and you can check the output is correct before submitting
a patch. It is also nice when patches come in with the relative
.html.tr patch also. This way if there are any errors in the build
process hopefully you will pick them up (I'm thinking exclusively about
the content as opposed to the build process).

Once you have the process sorted it is a lot easier to get your patches
commited, I promise. It took me an attempt or two iron it out. :-)

Cheers,
Tony

Bah,

You may get a very large response to a previous response I typed that
offline. Sorry.

I cant do that, as I dont use linux on my work laptop. :-(

But refer to my other email, using svn would be preffered as well as
sending in the html files too.

Yay, we are almost there. :-)

Anways,

Patches applied and committed. I have built the html files for you too.

Trunk :: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?rev=645667&view=rev

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?rev=645679&view=rev

2.2 :: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?rev=645674&view=rev

2.0 :: I tried to build this, but your patches seem to be missing
several "</p>" tags. But I can't see why it is saying this, so I will
need to review these later.

Thanks for your efforts, it is greatly appreciated.

I have prepared a package for this. It has been tested and attached
here. You can copy it to your own working directory, and commit it into
the repository.

Thanks,

It took me a little while to get to do it.
But I have committed your changes, and all the transformations, see:

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?rev=645896&view=rev

As always, your work is very much appreciated. Just one thing, please
try to use svn diff's in future. It makes it easier for us all.
However in this case as all your files were new files it was no so bad.,
but if you make changes then diff's are the way.

See 'svn help diff' on your command line (if you're using linux)

Cheers,
Tony

svn diff does not include new files (AFAIK);

$ svn diff logs.xml.tr
svn: 'logs.xml.tr' is not under version control
$ cd ..
$ svn diff manual/*
svn: 'manual/logs.xml.tr' is not under version control

If there is any other way, I am willing to learn.

Try using 'svn add' to add it to the repo first, then it will be under
version control to create a diff. :)
