Turkish Translations

Turkish Translations

Hi all,

I've finished some of the Turkish translations, I send them to you. Some
of them are in xml format, some others in html. If you wish, I can make
the necessary corrections.

Thank you for the contribution!

As a policy, we need your translation to be reviewed by
another person fluent in the language. That person can be
you friend, colleague, etc. All he/she has to do is to
review one of your translations and post a message to this
list which document he/she has reviewed. I think you have
seen this page because you are listed there but there's a
page about translation at:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-project/translations.html

You are more than welcome to submit patches to this ML to be committed
to the live documentation.

The easiest way for you to have this fixed, is submit an SVN diff/patch
to this ML and it will be reviewed and committed.

When you submit any new documents (or patches) for translations these
need to be sent to this ML. But in the email you need to identify the
person who created the change, and then also identify who reviewed these
changes. I am not aware of any current native Turkish speakers in the
docs group (if there are, please corrrect me).

The people who create, and review the work before it is sent to us both
need to be native speakers of the language. See out docs-projects
translations page here:

Packaged as tarballs that contain files to be committed into the
repository according to their locations under the manual/ folder. I plan
to specify the translator and the reviewer in the header of each file,
because I think it is not necessary to re-post them in this list. The
person to add files to the repository will only have to look at the
header of each file.

Actually that's not necessary (it'd be nice anyway ;-). We are going to have
to trust you guys anyway. It also makes sense to subscribe in order to get
feedback from other people contributing.

No, because this file will be generated. The style/lang/tr.xml file, which
is the base, should be reviewed though.

Been there, done that. Should be available in 2.0, 2.2 and trunk now.

Ehm, the file is *completely* autogenerated. Editing and patching will be
destroyed next time someone calls the bootstrap build.
What is you patch supposed to achieve?

This is what I wanted to achieve:

1. Generate the following end-of-page lines:
Copyright 2008 The Apache Software Foundation.
Apache License, Version 2.0 altında lisanslıdır.
(See: http://nilgun.buguner.name.tr/apache/2.2/index.html.tr )

2. Make sure the tables generated with quickreference.xml.tr are not
half Turkish half English.
(See: http://nilgun.buguner.name.tr/apache/2.2/mod/quickreference.html.tr )

3. Replace certain strings of the modules and directives that do not
have to be in English with their Turkish translation. If we do this in
the original translation then quickreference.xml.tr will not be
generated or will be generated with errors. This is because some of your
XSLT code have references to replacement text rather than attribute.

I did not know this file was generated by build.sh so I edited it
myself. Then you told me it was generated, and I transferred my own file
into the generated one. But, I missed some parts when transferring content
to the generated file. The correct patch is attached here.

I thought that if there ise manual.tr.xsl file, then I should normally
be able to use it to do edits that will not affect other languages,
which I did.

If I cannot use that file, then I think you should designate another one
which I can edit. Otherwise our work will get stuck at some point, and I
prefer not to get involved from the start if that will be the case.

Both of these items are by design and should not be changed. Item 1 is
questionable though and might be discussed. It's a text with legal
implications, so this discussion might need a greater audience (but IANAL:
someone may correct me here). Note that language mixes also may occur in
more files than the quickreference (e.g. the module list).

I have made small patch packages.
manual-2.2.tar.bz2 contains patches for 2.0 and 2.2, and
manual-trunk.tar.bz2 contains patches for trunk.

If you apply the changes in en.xml to the files in other languages,
the existing translated documents in those languages will not be
affected by this change. The characteristic of this package is that
it will not affect the existing translated files.

The patches in manual-trunk.tar.bz2 nevertheless do affect the existing
translated files. This package contains the regular changes and requires
that <module>.xml files in the mod/ folder be revised. The package also
contains a sample patch for mod_action.xml. Also <legend> label along
with its content needs to be deleted from mod/qucikreference.xml file.
"legend" label does not exist in DTD any more; DTD has changed to some
extent. If it will be difficult for you to apply this package, you can
replace style/lang patches in the earlier package with the corresponding
ones in this package, and then apply only the earlier package.

manual.tr.xsl patch is not needed in this case.

Hmm, what I don't understand is why you change status and contexts at all.
These changes have no visible effect (but break non-html builds). I'd
rather leave them as-is.

Regarding the other changes, I've attached an alternative patch derived from
yours (still containing a latex todo, but the latex build is a big todo
anyway) . Is that patch acceptable to you? (I left out content changes in
tr.xml).

Since status and contexts do not contain texts that can be translated, I
made them into attributes. I did this so the translators should not be
guessing how their translated text does not end up. (As generally
assumed, attribute values are not translation targets) Also since my
purpose here is to eliminate any undesired visible effects, it is only
normal that these changes have no visible effect.

The Turkish translation team already knows that status and contexts do
not need to be translated. Therefore the changes you made are OK with me.

If you let me know that you applied the changes in svn, I will send you
a separate patch for those content changes that you skipped in tr.xml.

Yes, I waited doing these until we cleared the stuff.

I've made one additional change: the tr output files are named
*.html.tr.utf8 now.
Also, the httpd config files (for distribution and on httpd.apache.org) have
been adjusted to deliver those file labeled correctly.

Thanks. I attach here a patch for (1) changes in tr.xml file, and
(2) naming the generated HTML files according to "*.html.tr.utf8".
