BROWEXCLUDE

Howdy All,

I'm trying to exclude spiders and crawlers from our reports via BROWEXCLUDE
but the records aren't excluded unless the case is exactly what was
specified on BROWEXCLUDE. CASE INSENSITIVE doesn't seem to have any
effect. I'm not keen on figuring out the exact case for each spider.

Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff Mainville

You're right, browser names are considered to be case sensitive. But why is it
a problem? You just have to copy the name in the logfile or in the report for
each one you want to exclude, and you're presumably doing that anyway?

I obtained the list of spiders, etc. from another source, where they use a
different log analysis product, and each spider is in caps.

We process our web logs on a monthly basis and have over 90 million records
(and growing) each month. I suppose it's not a major problem. First I can
run just a browser report, then check for any new spiders and copy what I
need into the config file, then run the regular reports. That will have to
become part of our monthly routine.

Thanks for the help; not knowing that the names are case sensitive was what
was really baffling me.

Stupid question:

BROWEXCLUD: Does it cause Analog to completely ignore every
log-line created by such a browser?

Thanks

i'm guessing that in most cases it can't. it's probably just going
to ignore it for browser statistics.

Your guess is wrong. It does indeed completely ignore every line from such a
browser. BROWSUMEXCLUDE and BROWREPEXCLUDE exclude them just from the two
browser reports.
