Gossamer Threads is a fast growing startup working on a wide range of web-based projects. We are located in beautiful downtown Vancouver. The ocean and mountain scenary might be a pleasant switch from what you are used to!

We have the following jobs available, but are always looking for more Perl programmers!

Web Application Developer - Perl

We are looking for someone with a good background in Perl and web application development to join our team of developers. This is a full time position to enhance and develop our products and create new applications from scratch for our clients.

Must have Perl application development experience and strong mod_perl skills, as well as a solid programming background and experience with relational databases.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:

  • MySQL/Postgres/Oracle/MSSQL databases
  • Application frameworks knowledge (Catalyst, Mason, etc)
  • Web UI Toolkits, CSS, JavaScript
  • Bricolage CMS application
  • Request Tracker application

Content management application development experience desired.

Linux System Administrator

We are looking for someone with a love of Linux and server hardware to help manage our datacenters. You must have a solid foundation in Linux and use it on a day to day basis. Attention to detail, strong problem solving skills, and an independent and creative work ethic are essential.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:

  • Gentoo portage system
  • Cluster and High Availability technologies (DRBD, Heartbeat, Linux-HA, etc)
  • Experience with kernel development
  • Cisco networking
  • Server monitoring and Management (SNMP, RRD, Mon, etc)
  • Perl
  • Server virtualization
  • Hardware debugging (memtest86, mprime, smartctl, etc)
  • 64 bit systems

With over 250 servers in Vancouver and London, there are lots of opportunities to work with a wide variety of technologies in this challenging position.

Being on call is required. This is a full-time onsite position.
