Spam Filtering

By default, our servers are set up with user configurable spam filtering. This built-in function allows you to customize and tweak the spam settings on your server for each individual mailbox, rather than simply having a global setting. You can either choose to tag each message with the word SPAM in the subject line, for easy sorting by a mail client, or you can set the system up to remove offending messages immediately without even delivering them.

Anti-Virus

Gossamer Host machines also come standard with anti-virus scanning, which will scan all incoming and outgoing email for viruses. (We constantly update the scanner in our efforts to catch every virus.) With the virus scanner, you're also protected against users of your mail server unwittingly spreading viruses.

Whitelisting

This is a feature that can significantly reduce the amount of mail your server has to deliver. With whitelisting enabled, your mail server checks to see if an incoming email contains legitimate recipients. Mail addressed to random names at your domain will be discarded, thereby reducing spam. If you're running Gossamer Mail, we can configure whitelisting to check against Gossamer Mail's user database and discard any emails not addressed to a valid user. This also reduces the amount of mail the system has to parse, thus reducing load on the server, and again, increasing speed.

mod_perl

mod_perl is essential for high traffic sites that use Perl. By using mod_perl you'll see a dramatic speed improvement over traditional CGI. Many hosting companies claim to support mod_perl, but few do it properly. Our mod_perl server is configured appropriately as a user controlled back-end proxied server. We are also available to help tune and configure your settings if you are new to mod_perl.

Server Control Panel

We created our server control panel for our Dedicated Hosting servers, so that administrators could setup individual user accounts to which specific domain names can be assigned. Here, the administrator can select the services to enable, on a domain-by-domain basis, such as PHP, Virus Scanning, SSL, mod_gzip, mod_perl etc. Fully-featured, the GAdmin interface gives Dedicated Hosting administrators complete control over their machines.

Domain Control Panel

Our countrol panel was built to provide domain owners with the ability to examine log files and server statistics as well as the ability to manage email accounts and more.

FileMan/PhpMyAdmin Bundled

FileMan allows you to edit files on your site directly without the cumbersome process of using FTP to download the file, make edits, and upload it back to the site again.

Cron Job Manager

Cron Jobs let you automatically run tasks at specific times and intervals. Our browser-based interface for creating and editing Cron Jobs takes the guesswork out of this (somewhat cryptic) part of running a site.

MySQL

We are MySQL experts, and our server setup is optimized to keep MySQL fast and stable. Host your (large or small) database with us for best-of-breed stability.

PHP

All of our servers come standard with the ability to run PHP scripts.

mod_gzip / mod_deflate

We use mod_gzip technology to help reduce a typical site's bandwidth usage by 40-70%, translating into much lower operating costs. This comes standard with all of our servers and is supported by all major browsers. It’s worth noting that this technology can save a busy site many hundreds of dollars a month.

SSL

Should your site require secure pages for secure communications (e.g. credit card transactions) you’ll appreciate the fact that all Gossamer Host servers come pre-configured for it. Installation of a secure certificate is simple using our browser-based system.

SSH

Providing deeper access than FTP, SSH allows you to perform many tasks that FTP access does not permit. SSH access is available on Dedicated Hosting, should you prefer this method.
