who knows about "staggered link verifying" mod
I have spent now 24 hours non stop high on caffeine to find something to solve the dead link checking in Links2 for bigger databases.

I found one mod that could run 50 or so operastions simultaneous - it just never worked.

I uploaded the newest nph-verify file and at least some worked until the server timed out after some 100 or so links, the old know problem.

Then there was the post of someone who seems to be gone and disapeared that mentioned a "staggered solution" that would probably work somehow like the build option, but i can't find that one anywhere, maybe it wasen't working right too???

Anyway, if anyone has a solution that works for a larger database too, please let me know.

I have found a software title that does the link checking report called Astra SiteManager, but then i have several thousend links displayed and i can't copy or paste any out of the program to search for them in Links as there is of course no jump id number, so that is to crazy to work on.

You might want to check out WebTrends Log Analyzer Pro, which has a built-in link checking application that you can use to parse through your built HTML pages in the LINKS 2.0 section of your website...less intensive on your server, but more intensive on your client, works best with high-speed internet connection, not slow dialup.

Wink Thanks for that info Wink

Indeed, using such a program was so far the best thing i came up with myself, but i did not know the particular one you mention.

The Program i found so far and that is easy to use is Link Checker Pro.

The positive side (i just mention this for all others that might try to find a solution to the dead link checking issue on Links2) of using such a program rather then some internal solution is that the program can obviousely take it's time to check and double check all the links.

I have tried a Links2 internal mod that would increase the speed of the process by handling multiple URL checks at the same time, but it A: produces some extra files inside the data folder and B: is not visually controlable on how or where it is running and C: again the server open time is still way to short for any larger database with several thousand links.

With Link Checker Pro i simply had to copy and paste each URL of a dead link found into the search function in admin to remove it, a minor innconvenience.

The other downside of such programs (without having tested the "WebTrends Log Analyzer Pro" yet) is that i found they can not go into the cgi-bin (where they really have to go and check in there) on some servers, mainly on Virtualave where there must be some "security" or other restrictions.
