Vote: Invalid Format --- from admin vote shows 4.00
I am having a bugger of a time working out this one,

I use templates and have images for ratings + numbers and amount of votes, the strage thing is when a vote is made lets say 4 and sent successfully from a link via a category, I go to admin to build and then back to the directory to see the result the stranges thing happens...

I use 10 full/half star rating system.

Rating by Images SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile --> imagine this is no stars

Rating by Number= 0

Votes = 4.00

What have I done?

Now if I go to admin and go to Modify a link ---> in the list let's say listing 54, I scroll down and it say's Rating 0 & Votes 4.00, the weird thing is if I press okay for modify as is, an error comes back with ---> Error: Unable to Modify Link

There were problems modifying the record:
  • Votes (Invalid format)

Now this has given me the absolute crapers I want to throw my monitors out the window.

Well the script didn't say that last comment, I was thinking the last part.

To top it all off I can add a Rating & vote via admin without a problem. Go figure MMM.

So has anyone had the same prob or is it just me.

I have checked the T for TITLE it is correct, I checked the forms it is correct, one thing that stumped me was there was no file appearing in /data/rates even after resetting and making another vote and rating 18 times to be exact. Is a file auto placed in the data/rates file.

I have no answer ---->

Inside the 'admin' directory is the 'data' dir, inside of that are two more directories, 'rates' and 'hits'. Inside each of those there needs to be a file named 'index.html' which are blank files.

You added a field for the image mod? Did you already have links in your database? If yes, did you add the new field to your existing db? If not, that'll screw everything up, fer sure. Re-read the instructions for the mod, make sure ya did it all right.

Yeh I don't know, both index.html files were in there and hits got replaced with index.count and rates just plain old had index.html and never changed..... I think I just plain old screwd it up somewhere or the script was currupted to start with, I am going to wipe and reload ---->

I have only been testing the power of links and I tried the download from GT which is the standard with no mods and it worked fine but that was now three months ago and I wiped that to try another.

Then I tried the download archive remake of Links 2.0 from the modification centre on GT for download they have a german & english type it has some advanced bit's and pieces though after testing it is just plain old bad modification work of link 2.0 some parts are still in german and the mods are pasted everywhere very messy. This is the version The error occured in. Somewhere along the line of changing the already installed image mods images from 10 star to 5 star it had a fault and could not recover as for the text way it couldn't handle the constant voting it just fell apart, as for the file in the data/rates, it just never appeared even before the mod image change. But the origional GT Links 2.0 did work, funny that.

I will delete and start with a fresh copy from the download page of GT links.2.0 --> besides my templates are all done all that needs customising is the script again and the mods are so easy to install from a you beaut fresh copy.

As for this hopless question I started with I say throw it to the dogs, it's hopeless.

Time is money, And your time is valuable. So let's not waste it any more.

Thanks for answering PerlFlunkie.

P.s My monitors are all still intact all three just made it through my stress attack....lol Thankgod for pay tv ---> comedy sure puts you back in the mood.......

Did you flunk a perl class really or did you like the nickname PerlFlunkie just a question?

Ya know, suddenly your looking at a "register" screen, and ya gotta come up with something... (Although, just now looking the word up, I see it's flunkY, meaning someone what does menial tasks. Hmmm... The only perl learnin' I've received is the "hit-n-miss-hacker-with-a-book-near-by" type. Mostly from fiddlin' with Links! It's a great, fun script to meddle with! After you get your script runnin' just start adding the mods you want; I've got at least 20 in mine! And that dosen't include all the HTML changes.

True, time is money, but when I've got the time, I enjoy perusing these forums, and "helping" where I can. They've certainly helped me! Besides Perl, make sure you add XHTML, CSS, and SSI to your talents, they're a great combo! And as you add mods, be sure to leave ##comments## in the code, so ya know what ya done. (Makes it much easier to trouble-shoot later!)

Just a note, the mod you were tryin' to use (rate=image) is here:

http://cgi-resource.co.uk/pages/imagehits.shtml

so you can start hackin' up your clean code!

Wink BUST A MOVE!.................

After heavy mind sweating and many reloads it works...

The funny thing is I don't know what I did...jokes

I just wiped the whole database, saved all the directory dbs and links dbs, reloaded the whole script from a fresh download reloaded what I wanted, removed the priority logo to see if that had any effect, and opened the directory dbs in word and what do you know the directory ids was all misplaced, the ids of some categories were missing when I changed this to go from 1 - 110 categories without a missing id it worked fine. It now counts the votes plus shows a rating in numeric and stars..

You little ripper, now on to the next step.....

I think maybe the priority logo link had an effect on the voting I wil have alook at this, it may well be bugin...

Over and Out...
