What are you thoughts about Fluid Dynamics Search Engine ? is it possible to replace this with the build search that comes with links2.0?

 FDSE is pretty good and you could indeed set it up to act as your search engine for your links database. The problem being you would not be able to display categories with FDSE out of the box. With the links default search it will show links and categories within the results. FDSE would only show category links.

The main problem I see if how you would implement it. If you just set up FDSE to crawl your directory it would list al your cat pages within the results, but would not differentiate between your cats and external sites. What I would do is set it up to crawl a list of URL's. Provide it with the url's within your url.db file. You can also set the crawl depth. May work out pretty well to have a small number of pages crawled from each site in your directory. You would also have to edit the templates to display the correct search form pointing to your FDSE install as opposed to search.cgi
