(Yikes! I posted this in the wrong forum initially... this is for Links SQL!)



Hi there!

I'm just looking for some insight here... I'm completely PHP/Perl clueless , but I'm thinking about buying Links SQL to build directories for the web with it.

First question is this: Do I need to know PHP/Perl in order to set up these directories?

Second: Is this really the correct program to get for helping out with this?

Third: Should I be looking to create an online directory at say, www.siteone.com for "shopping" in the US>Region>State format and another online directory at www.sitetwo.com for "weight loss" in the same US>Region>State format... do I need to purchase TWO licenses for the program considering that neither site will have the same links in them?

I do know HTML, and have worked with WYSIWYG editors before, but is that REALLY enough??

Not really. A lot of the features are available via 'plugins', which only require you to make a couple of changes to temlates most of the time :) All you need to do is work out how the template system works...i.e;



Why wouldn't it be? ' LinksSQL can do almost anything :)


You would be best talking to Jack (jack@gossamer-threads.com) about this.


I'm not that amazing with HTML (it would take me absolutly ages to build a decent looking site without the use of FrontPage XP), and I get along just fine :) Its more of a learning curve than anything. Once you have worked out how to do something, you won't forget it... and the chances are that you will use a similar thing at some point in the future anyway :)

I just get a little nervous when it comes to new languages and such, and considering it to be an entirely new project for me, I guess I needed someone to pat my head and tell me that it would be alright... LOL

One of my coworkers has a call in now, looking for more information about licensing and such, so hopefully we'll get that issue squared off soon and I can finally make a decision on this... Thanks again!

Trust me.. you'll be ok :) I know people who have come from pretty much just knowing how to using the Internet... to now being able to write simple globals for LinksSQL
