Loged in as a user and tried adding a site to a newly built linksql site and I get exactly this:

Sorry, this site does not accept submissions from ''.

(notice the ". at the end of the message)

What can this mean?

It means you probably have db_referers setup (Setup => Build Options => db_referers) and the referring page doesn't match.

Yep, just discovered Zone alarm is blocking the referrer info so no match. I hade to leave db_referers blank for this to work ok.

Is there a catch to how I enter the referrers or get them to work without giveing me that sorry this site does not accept.... error message?

I assumed simply adding www.mydomainname.com www.myalternatedomainname.com would do but that produces that error.

Just a comma separated list of hostnames/ips should do the trick. Note that as others have mentioned, a lot of firewalls/etc have a privacy option which disables sending the referer header, which will result in that error.

Ok thanks. I guess I better leave it off for now until such a time as it gets spammed hard, as theres no way for me to control what is running on the submitters computers.

We have a few plugins aimed at stopping spam:

http://www.ultranerds.com/Detailed/133.html (lets you block URL's from submitting, direct from the "validate links" area)
http://www.ultranerds.com/Detailed/173.html (lets you block IP's/IP ranges from submitting)
http://www.ultranerds.com/Detailed/4.html - (adds a CAPTCHA image on add.cgi, so that they have to enter a random string before it will accept - this stops most prolific spammers)
