Can sub-categories "inherit"?

Can sub-categories inherit content from categories?

For example...

I have a category called France. Category.html pulls a map of France from the column Map in the France category record.

Then I have a sub-category called Schools in France. Can category.html pull the same map from the same record, or do I need to add the map to the Schools in France record?

Sorry if that's a bit convoluted :)

Same thing for all countries.

I think the only field that is "inherited", is the Category_Template.
