[New Plugin] Multi_Categories

Not a very complex plugin. It will simply allow you to add categories in bulk. Simple enter into a text box, a list of what you want to add, i.e;

Category_Name:::Category Of:::Description:::Meta Description:::Meta Keywords:::Header:::Footer:::Category Template

And then the plugin will 'Import' this list of categories into the database. Includes quite a bit of error checking, such as making sure that the father category exists; the category trying to be added doesn't already exists; the template set trying to be added actually exists, and more.

I'm gonna be putting out a beta version of this sometime today (within the next few hours). If you wanna give it a go, please let me know, and I'll get a copy sent over.

Price is going to be $10.

I'm not sure why you'd go to the trouble of doing this plugin when MySQLMan's Import feature will do the same thing as well as let you use whatever delimeter you want and let's you import from a file Wink

Also the name 'Multi_Categories' can be misunderstand...
Better the name would be "Import Multi_Categories".
This describes exactly what it does...

Not currently. This is something I want to add... Currently you have to access it via the 'Plugins' menu, and an option on the plugins menu.

It would be great if you could extend it to work with the browser - I can just see myself dropping 30 sub-cat names into a box and pressing one button to add them all Smile

I just tried your plugin. Guess what..

10845 Second Level Categories in 2 minutes and 35 seconds.

All this without any error and pratically *no* load time on the server.

Thanks a lot for the wonderful plugin. It can surely save tons of time for anyone.

I'm having a problem with the plugin.

It will only add the last subcategory to the the correct main cat, the others will be placed in the root category.

I have an test installation on a windows server at home and it runs on this with the same tar file without problems.

I'm copying and pasting the exact same information into each installation.

Sample:
Articulated Trucks:::Classifieds/Items For Sale
Asphalt Equipment:::Classifieds/Items For Sale
Backhoes:::Classifieds/Items For Sale
Ball Rod and S.A.G. Mills:::Classifieds/Items For Sale

Added Articulated Trucks to Classifieds/Items For Sale
Added Asphalt Equipment to Classifieds/Items For Sale
Added Backhoes to Classifieds/Items For Sale
Added Ball Rod and S.A.G. Mills to Classifieds/Items For Sale

1 st 3 are loaded in the root cat and the last in the Classifieds/Items For Sale.

What could the reason be ?

Do you have any tailing spaces at the end of the first few lines? i.e;

Articulated Trucks:::Classifieds/Items For Sale(space)
Asphalt Equipment:::Classifieds/Items For Sale(space)
Backhoes:::Classifieds/Items For Sale(space)
Ball Rod and S.A.G. Mills:::Classifieds/Items For Sale(space)

That can cause it to be looking for an invalid category, i.e with an extra space at the end.

I'll be brining out a new version soon, which will take this into account, and also support heirarchical category support, i.e;

/Hotels/UK/England

...would make;

/Hotels
/Hotels/UK
/Hotels/UK/England

Should have this out in the next couple of weeks :)

As I said the same installation works on the test site at home. Pirate

It would be possible to add more fields (GLinks 3.3.0) ?

I would like to add several categories, but the data are more important (10 fields).

Or, it is possible to use phpMyAdmin for example ?
