Verisign takes over all domains

Verisign takes over all domains
As of this morning, any misspelled or unregistered domain will now resolve to verisign's site (sitefinder.verisign.com).

Code:
[root@gossamer root]# nslookup aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com
Server: 64.69.64.7
Address: 64.69.64.7#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com
Address: 64.94.110.11

[root@gossamer root]# nslookup 64.94.110.11
Server: 64.69.64.7
Address: 64.69.64.7#53

Non-authoritative answer:
11.110.94.64.in-addr.arpa name = sitefinder-idn.verisign.com.

[root@gossamer root]#

This is really pretty scummy, and a new low for Verisign. Lots of implications here (Spam processing that looks at whether domain exists, people's mail errors will now be different -- no longer domain does not exist, but rather, no mx record, or on some servers, it will try and deliver to the a record).

Cheers,

Alex

Of course the number one result for 'register domain names' on their search engine is network solutions:

Wow.. that is pathetic! Hope their servers crash under load Laugh

And with a deal with overture, they are cashing in on this non-domain redirect. What gives them the exclusive right to profit from this? Totally unacceptable.

Just like to add that it only is for .com and .net that it does that.

There is a petition you can sign that's directed toward ICANN to take action. There are roughly 10000 signatures already.

hehe... Forbes is running a poll on CEO's. Vote against Stratton D. Sclavos.
