Man, why do I have to live in probably the most expensive country in the world? I pay £1000 for my insurance. That only covers the person I hit in an accident, or against fire/theft on my car. I was just talking to my mate, who lives out in the USA, and he's paying $300/year on a 4 litre car!

It ain't only car insurance. There is fuel, food, water, electricity, housing, computers, well, pretty much anything!

Why do we have such a contrast? I HATE THE UK

But seriously, I don't know why there is such a disparity. Are you allowed to shop around for different insurers? Competition in the insurance market is pretty keen here.

Other factors could drive it up, are there tons of lawsuits involving auto accidents in the UK or is autotheft worse?

For example, homeowners insurance here has jumped a good bit from frivolous "toxic mold" lawsuits.

So why aren't you guys getting punished for all the shitty shows that we get like Ricki Lake, Oprah, Jerry Springer?

Shopping around generally doesn't help a great deal. Most companies charge near enough the same. Insurance companies will always have your pants around your ankles when you are under 25 or so.
