Why not?

There are about 6 billion people on planet earth hence theoretically you could have 6 billion people hit your site in one second

Yup, it was a spider: Pita (webmaster@pita.stanford.edu). It was averaging about 20 hits/s to the http://gossamer-threads.com/forum/. We haven't had problems with spiders in a while as we sped up the forum and even things like Teleport Pro didn't seem to cause the forum problems. Seems like we still have a bit of work to do.

I banned them for now as they were using ~ 700kb/s of bandwidth as well. Sheesh. =)
