Good FTP client on XP?

Good FTP client on XP?
Hi. I've just purchased a new laptop, and am in the process of transfering all my stuff over to it. A problem I have noticed, is thatCuteFTP Pro 3.1 keeps freezing. Its not a case of the laptop (its a 2.5 Athlon). The laptop doesn't seem to freeze when CuteFTP is closed.

Does anyone know of a good (free if possible) FTP client? It needs some form of text editing option in it (for editing Perl/PHP./HTML files in real time) .... I've tried WS_FTP but it is just so tacky, and doesn't have half of the features I need.

Any advice is most welcome.

It is the best I've found...clean and professional. The only feature missing was recursive chmodding and so I wrote to the company and they implemented the feature and as a thankyou they sent me the alpha version of the new release with my feature request implemented Cool

Thanks guys. I've downloaded AbsoluteFTP, and it doesn't seem to be freezing the OS :)

The one thing I'm not so comfortable with, is that you don't seem to be able to transfer files from the server to the desktop, and vice-versa (i.e there is no transfer button). You have to right click the appropriate files, and then manually select where you want to upload to Frown

I tried that not so long ago... but it seemed pretty slow to me (took up to 3 times longer than CuteFTP) Unsure

Still trying to figure out how it works, but it seems pretty interesting. Claims to encrypt everything, including directory structure.

Drop FTP, use SSH instead. =) WinSCP is quite nice for a ftp like replacement.

WinSCP will do what you want. Or use rz/sz to send files across via raw ssh (you can send multiple at a time).

FWIW - I'm still using ws_ftp le (for win95/98/nt) and it works perfectly fine on XP (so far....).

Really... It's the only one I've ever used so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. My only complaint is not being able to delete remote directories that aren't entirely empty.

You get that problem with any FTP client. Its normally due to .htaccess / .htpasswd files Frown
