Best spec PC?
Hi,

Anyone know whats the best kinda spec machine you can get these days? I've seen some on ebay at about 9Ghz,with 8gb RAM - is that the best we can get these days, or is there faster? =)

Cheers

There's no such thing as 9ghz.

The current top desktop processors can be overclocked to about 5ghz at present and they are probably unstable at that.

I've just built a new pc. It's a quad core 2.83ghz with 4GB DDR3 RAM and a Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 motherboard. Fast enough for almost anything.

Unless you are producing a Disney movie or something that sort of spec is more than enough. You could even use DDR2.

I believe 32bit Vista can only index 4GB RAM max, and 64bit Vista can index 8-128 GB RAM depending on version of Vista. Sure, you can have a 9 GHz computer - AND a beer at the same time:

Hi,

Ya, thats about what I've found - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/...sidZp1713.m153.l1262. I think that should do me fine (I have a 64bit version of Vista, so should be able to cope with the 8Gb RAM :))

Not technically 9ghz and complete overkill for almost everything.

I was actually injecting some (lame) humor in the thread with that. Was not meant to be translated literally =)

4 G ram is enough for me.
I could allocate 1.7G to run win2k3 ramos 1G as ramdisk

Ya, I'm looking more at 8gb (just cos I can Tongue) - I sometimes find a run out of memory when I'm using a lot of high powered stuff at one time , i.e Photoshop, etc.
