Welcome the second of our ongoing employee profiles series, featuring the incomparable Michael (Don’t call him Mike)!

You may recognize Michael from previous blog post photos as the only person with a consistently stone-cold expression on his face. “Smiling is for ze weak”, he explains.

The shot above, shows Michael in his native element of the great outdoors. With characteristic modesty, he describes this photo as capturing the moment when he saved the lives of his fellow hikers using his prodigious navigation skillz.

Michael, the worker

Michael joined the GT family in early 2007, though to some of us it feels longer than that. Much, much longer. A PHP programmer extraordinaire, Michael is also expanding his coding repertoire to include Perl.

Prior to moving to Kanada (as he still insists on spelling it), Michael held down a programming job in India, having moved there after graduating from University in his native Germany.

Michael, outdoor warrior

We here at Gossamer Media Services are fairly confident that Michael will try any outdoor activity at least once, if not become a full-on devotee instantly. An avid surfer, Michael makes frequent trips out to Tofino, a surfer’s paradise located on the West coast of Vancouver Island.

Michael also spends an inordinate amount of time tramping around the tops of the various snow-covered mountains close to the Vancouver region.

I was afraid I’d have to write to Michael’s Mum to send us a picture of him smiling, but we finally stumbled on something that produces that elusive expression in him (look down below his feet), as well apparently making him a little confused about the proper way to wear one’s pants in the snow.

A few months back, Michael indulged his travel-addiction, and took a month-long sojourn to Columbia, where he took some beautiful photographs.

I suppose that’s enough picking on Michael for now! Tune in for future profiles of other interesting and illustrious Gossamer team members.
